Admin history/BiographyChryston Horticultural Society was founded in December 1853, when a meeting of persons interested in the advancement of horticulture was held in Chryston Inn. The membership was to be made up of 'amateurs, gentlemen gardeners and others, whether cultivating for profit or not'. There was an annual subscription of one shilling and regular competitions and shows were held in the late summer, first in the old Parish School, and from 1860 in the Free Church Hall. By 1877 the society had become known as the Chryston District Horticultural and Agricultural Society. The society is still in existence today.
