V, c.25) delegated the discharge of poor law functions with reference to the poor or able-bodied unemployed to the relevant district council, or in the case of small burghs, joint committees. The Public Assistance Committee was made up of members of New Kilpatrick District Council and Milngavie Burgh Council. In 1943 its became the New Kilpatrick Joint Committee for Social Welfare Services. The functions of the New Kilpatrick Joint Committee for Social Welfare Services were transferred to central government under the National Assistance Act 1948 (11 & 12 Geo. VI, c.29).
