Archival historyBearsden Arts Guild was founded on 5 December 1973. Based at Kilmardinny House, in Kilmardinny Avenue, Bearsden, it represented the interests of the many smaller arts-related groups within the area, gaining 1500 individual and group members within its first year. The objects of the Guild were to provide facilites for clubs, organisations, groups and the general public to participate in arts activities, and to organise, manage, promote and produce plays, concerts, lectures, exhibitions, etc. in co-operation with the District Council. In June 1975, with the creation of the Bearsden and Milngavie District Council, the Arts Guild became the Bearsden and Milngavie Arts Guild. The Guild was dissolved in April 1997 because it could not afford to keep up Kilmardinny House. Management of Kilmardinny House thereafter passed to East Dunbartonshire Council's Leisure and Culture Department.
