Archival historyKirkintilloch & District Museums Association was formed in 1974 when some interested local people got together with the object of re-establishing the Auld Kirk Museum (originally the Old Parish Church of Kirkintilloch) in Kirkintilloch, first opened in 1961. At the time of local government re-organisation in 1975, Mrs Alice MacKenzie was appointed Chief Librarian with a remit which included managing local museums as well as libraries. Alice MacKenzie started holding talks with the Museums Association about the future of the Auld Kirk Museum. Consequently, a policy of cooperation between the libraries department and the local museums association developed. Today, the Auld Kirk Museum is the principal museum within East Dunbartonshire Museum Services, maintaining close working links with both East Dunbartonshire Libraries and the Kirkintilloch & District Museums Association.
