Archival historyAround 8,000 Belgian refugees came to Scotland after Germany invaded Belgian in August 1914. Glasgow City Coporation contacted other local councils asking for offers of help to accomodate and support the refugees. Kirkintilloch Burgh Council set up this local committee in response to Glasgow's request and to co-ordinate local offers of assistance.
