Scope and ContentTwo letters from Henry Gordon to his uncle James Glassford, 1820-1822. John Glassford, began trading tobacco in the 1750s. He purchased the country seat of Netherwood near Milngavie, which he renamed Dougalston, in 1767. On his death, the estate passed to his son James Glassford. Henry Gordon, the son of James' sister Jean, succeeded to the estate when James died in 1845. He took the name of Glassford at the same time, and acquired Craigmaddie, which became the manor house of Dougalston.
