Admin history/BiographyThere has been a school in existence at Baldernock since the 1600s, and although records of the school at that time are scarce, it is known that in 1764 the school transferred to new buildings in the village of Fleuchtar. In 1873 a new schoolhouse was built in order to provide education for the additional pupils attending after the closure of Balmore Adventure School, as well as those from Baldernock, Balmore, Barraston and beyond.
By 1912 there was 110 pupils on the roll, although law allowed for only 92 pupils in a school of Baldernock's size. Although the pupil roll decreased in subsequent years, additions were made gradually such as equipment for a cookery class, school garden and a classroom for practical work in 1935.
In 1946 the pupils of the Advanced Division transferred to Torrance School and Baldernock's status changed to that of a Primary School. The number of pupils dropped dramatically to 25, and stayed at that level for several years until the 1960s, when numbers rose to 66 pupils with 2 staff employed at the school. At that time Baldernock schoolhouse was considered one of the finest in the county.
