Admin history/BiographySubsequent to the passing of the Education (Scotland)Act of 1872 the Kirkintilloch (Landward) School Board decided to build a school in Twechar, the Infant Department being first to arrive in 1888. By 1889 the school was fully operational, with education for older children provided by Continuation Classes (Night School) conducted by the Headmaster.
Due to rapid increases in the number of pupils attending, new classrooms were added to the school firstly in 1927, then again in 1937 along with a Mining Room, partially funded by Miner's Welfare to allow pupils to be trained in skills needed by the local coal industry. Also added in 1937 was a Junior Secondary Department, secondary pupils in Twechar previously having had to travel to Townhead School or Lenzie Academy.
In 1966 the Junior Secondary Department closed and the pupils affected were sent to Cumbernauld High School, and subsequently to the newly opened Kirkintilloch High School after 1972.
