Admin history/BiographyThe school opened in 1874 as the first Catholic school in Kirkintilloch. In 1919 it was transferred to the management of the new Dunbartonshire Education Authority. Pupils came from Kirkintilloch and the surrounding villages of Croy, Twechar, and parts of Stirlingshire.
The original school building on Union Street, Kirkintilloch had been enlarged and modernised in 1895. However by 1929 the school roll had risen to 1,011, and accommodation was again a problem. Westermains House and the surrounding grounds in Bellfield Road, Kirkintilloch were purchased from Glasgow Parish Council for £2000, and a new school opened on the site on 27 November 1931. The name of the new school was changed from Kirkintilloch (Town) RC School to St Ninian's RC High School. The Bellfield Road building was demolished and a new PPP (Public-Private Partnership) school building was opened on the site in 2009.
The school motto "in necessaries, in dubiis libertas, in omnibus caritas" is a Latin phrase meaning "unity in necessary things, liberty in doubtful things, charity in all things".
