Archival historyThis group of Special Policemen included two bank managers, accountants, sales engineers, a plumber, an electrician and two gardeners. The donor's father told the following story about the group:
When the Germans were bombing Clydebank it was reported that paratroops were landing (they were actually land mines which were dropped by parachute). In the heat of the moment the sergeant, who had a car, gathered four of the men and they headed off along Duntocher Road towards the enemy. But they suddenly realised - what could a group of elderly men, armed only with batons, do agains soldiers armed to the teeth? They rather sheepishly turned round and headed for home.
