Archival historyIan Dron was awarded the Sir James Duncan Medal Trust Certificate in recognition of his outstanding bravery in assisting the Police to apprehend a gunman at the Erskine Bridge Motel, Clydebank on 16 May 1970. Mr Dron had been attending a Bearsden and Milngavie Round Table dinner at the motel when the incident occured. He and a few other men kept the gunman, Thomas McCulloch, talking until the Police attended. Two members of hotel staff were shot. The Sir James Duncan Medal Trust was established in 1964 by Sir James Duncan of Jordanstone, Perthshire to provide medals and certificates for members of the public who, by their outstanding bravery, had assisted the Police in Scotland in the maintenance of law and order.
