Admin history/BiographyThe school was designed by architect Robert WKC Rogerson for the County Council of Dunbarton. It opened on 5 January 1961 with J Jeffrey Thomson as Head Teacher. The total roll of children was 263, 182 from Bearsden Primary, 64 from the Westerton Annexe of Bearsden Primary (previously under the charge of Mrs Ramsay), 16 new Primary 1 pupils, and 1 pupil from Glasgow. The official opening ceremony of the school took place on 29 March 1961. In June 1962 Mr Robert WKC Rogerson the architect of the school presented his firm's painting of the school which had previously been hung in the Fine Arts Institute.
Pupils were allocated to 'Houses' named after the streets leading to the school entrances namely Stirling, Westfield, and Crarae. The 'Houses' competed against each other gaining points for general conduct, class work and conduct, examinations, and sports. By August 1962 the roll had reached 333 pupils and the old Westerton Annexe had to be reopened to accommodate the two P1 classes. Improvement works were made to the annexe before reopening including fresh paintwork in bright colours, new furniture, new toilet facilities indoors, new heaters, pin boarding, and a piano.
