Admin history/BiographyPrivate James Corroon, son of James and Margaret Corroon, was born in White Dyke Cottage, Glenboig in 1916. He was brought up in Coatbridge. Prior to WWII he sparred with famous scottish boxer Benny Lynch.
James initially served with the Cameronians before being transferred to the 7th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.He landed in Normandy in June 1944 and participated in the Eastern Flank operations and in operations Goodwood and Totalise. James was wounded on 17 August 1944 during fighting for the village of St Julien-le-Faucon. He died of his wounds eight days later on the 25 August 1944 in a casualty clearing station at the Beachhead. He was buried in La Delivrande War Cemetery, Douvres, France. He left behind wife Hannah and son James.
