TitleProtectograph
DescriptionA protectograph is an office device designed to prevent cheque fraud by securely printing the written monetary amount onto cheques, making them extremely difficult to alter. It used two colours of ink to create permanent, tamper-proof imprints for the amount of money being transferred by the cheque. Patents were being applied for for these devices from the end of the 19th century, this one however was used much later in the 20th century at Tom Johnstone House in Kirkintilloch.
