TitleCadder communion token
DescriptionTokens were commonly used in Presbyterian churches in Scotland from the Reformation through to the 19th century. In the weeks before the celebration of communion, the church’s elders would visit congregation members to examine their knowledge of the faith and purity of life. Those who met with the elders’ approval were given a small token which permitted them to receive communion. Cadder Parish Church was built in 1825, on a site where, it is claimed, Christians have worshipped since 1150.
