Creator Hugh 'Ugolin' Allan
DescriptionHugh 'Ugolin' Allan studied at Glasgow School of Art, known for his landscape watercolours. Allan established the Allander Pottery in Milngavie in 1904, unfortunately it closed in 1908. Anstruther is a small town on a stretch of coastline known as the East Neuk of Fife. Edinburgh is 50 miles southwest and Dundee 20 miles north. In the 18th century smuggling was common. On dark nights with a high tide, brandy and rum were brought upriver. 'The Smugglers Inn' still stands and so does its secret seaward door that led down to the river.
