DescriptionBustled brown full length wedding skirt. Silk taffeta and flower detailed brocade panels either side over linen underskirt with silk taffeta smocking and small pleats at bottom. Linen lining. Metal fastenings. Front-pleating at waist.
back - linen underskirt with silk taffeta from mid-length gathered in middle to give puffed effect at hips, as was fashionable. Ties on inside, likely to be for bustle.
Worn and made by Margaret Jarvie Stewart at her wedding on 4th August 1882 in KirkintillochBrown silk taffeta with brown brocade side panels: layered underskirt has tiered smocking and rouching ending in box pleats. Overskirt has centre back rouching giving skirt centre back and sides puffed effect. Two brocade panels at front sides with plain centre panel. Pleats around waist give puffed effectaround waist dropping down to wide pleat. Long.
