DescriptionBrown Jacket as part of a wedding dress with cream cuffs and front frill.
Original high collar with pleated frill. Smocking at 'bib' area with piping at edge. Fastenings, 5 hooks under smocked area and 9 buttons from mid chest to bottom, buttons removed. Front and back cut to point with lead weights. Back would sit over matching skirk to increase volume. Bottom side seams have lead weights. Waist band inside with 2 baleen supports at front of both sides of jacket with tight shaped sleaves, piping at sleave to bodice seam and bow decoration at cuff and pocket on left front. Addition of cream lace at cuffs and neck along with jabot style panel to expand front with new hooks fastening oposite way and hide original fastenings. Taken out at both inner seams of sleaves and at side seams. Suspect taken out and jabot expansion panel added after childbirth.
Worn and made by Margaret Jarvie on 4th August 1882 at her wedding.
