Description

SS 'Gipsy Queen', at Hillhead, Kirkintilloch. Pleasure steamer operated by James Aitken on from 1905 until 1939. Built in Paisley, she was the largest and last of Aitken's canal passenger steamers. Between 1893 and 1939 James Aitken, and later his son George, operated a total of five steamers on the canal - three 'Fairy Queens' (at different times), the 'May Queen' (1903-1912) and the 'Gipsy Queen' (1905-1939).
