Description

Garnkirk House, built on the site of an ancient mansion in 1820 from designs by architect David Hamilton. Estate owners include John Dunlop, Glasgow merchant, who built the original house of Garnkirk and died in 1662. In 1782, the estate passed to James Dunlop, father of Colin Dunlop who represented Glasgow in Parliament with Mr Oswald shortly after the passing of the first Reform Bill.
