Description

The Glasgow Convalescent Home at Lenzie was opened in 1873 for patients from the Glasgow infirmaries. It was funded by subscriptions and charitable donations. When the National Health Service was created in 1948 it came under the management of the Western Regional Hospital Board. From 1968 to 1971 it was used as a 47 bed children's convalescent unit. It then became a Geriatric Unit and was re-named Lenzie Hospital. Despite a campaign to keep it open, Lenzie Hospital closed in 2000. The buildings have since been demolished.
