He was inducted as minister of St. Mary's Parish Church in January 1942 after the sudden death of Reverend Morrison the previous year. Reverend Brodie was one of the first to volunteer for the Home Guard and served with the Church of Scotland's Mobile Canteen Service in Normandy from 1944-45. He left St. Mary's in 1947 for St. Mungo's in Alloa.
