Rev. John Honorius Magini came to Lennoxtown as Priest c1865 where he remained for the rest of his life. He was devoted to the welfare of his church and congregation. At the time the Irish Catholic community of Kirkintilloch traveled to Lennoxtown to celebrate mass due to a lack of facilities in their town. In 1871 Father Magini opened a day school in Kirkintilloch for the catholic children who had been attending the local protestant schools. In 1875 he opened the Chapel-school on Union Street. The building was sixty by thirty feet with the alter at the north end (a gift from Archbishop Eyre, the main benefactor of the school). A classroom, that also served as a sacristy was attached to the main building. The Chapel-school could hold 219 scholars and 350 worshipers. The total cost of building did not exceed £800.
