Description

Robert Thomson, of Kilmardinny House Bearsden, was born in Kincardine in 1840. He came to Glasgow in the late 1850s to set up in business as a Wine & Spirit Merchant. In 1857 he became partners with William Robertson and together they acted as agents for numerous wine and spirit production firms such as Greenock Distillery and Fettercairn Distillery. The partnership split in 1860 and Robert Thomson started another business in 1863. He acquired Kilmardinny House in July 1901 but unfortunately never had time to enjoy it as he died in August 1901. His home before this had been Park House in Roman Road Bearsden. He was an active member of Bearsden Curling and Bowling Clubs and was champion at the latter.
