Description

William Shaw, JP, Provost of Milngavie from 1939-1942. Born in Crofthead, Fauldhouse, West Lothian, William Shaw had lived in Milngavie from 1914. He had been employed in the railway service first with the North British and later with The London & North Eastern Companies. He rose through the ranks working at many stations until he retired in September 1930 at Milngavie Station where he was Stationmaster. In 1928 he had been elected to the Town Council and became provost in 1939. He was also a member of Milngavie Bowling Club and had lived at Braefoot Avenue Milngavie.
