Description
James Watt of Gavin's Mill, also known as Watt's Mill, was the second Provost of Milngavie 1876-1879. An important member of the business community of Milngavie he was appointed one of the first Burgh Commissioners in 1875. When Robert Crawford retired from the Commission the following year, James Watt became Provost. He died as the result of an unfortunate accident in 1902, when the horse he was driving bolted and collided with a lamp-post, Mr Watt was violently thrown from his carriage and trampled by his horse.
