Description

Thomas Fields was Provost of Milngavie from 1909-1912. Thomas Fields was regarded as one of the most competent and able Provosts of Milngavie. During his period of office he carried on a campaign to obtain a reasonably-priced supply of gas for the town from Glasgow Corporation, who had bought out the old gas-works at Milngavie. In this he was successful. By trade he was a butcher, with a well known shop in Clober Crescent. After he retired from this business he took up farming at Stewartstown, Northern Ireland. However, he returned to Milngavie where he died in 1944, aged 83 years.
