Description

David H Ferguson was Provost of Milngavie from 1912-1924. Most of the earlier Provosts of Milngavie had been local tradesmen or industrialists, but David H Ferguson was a city businessman employed by William Anderson & Co Manufacturers, Princes Square in Glasgow. He had moved home to Milngavie in the 1890s and commuted to Glasgow each day. He was regarded as an able administrator, when carrying out council business. He was Provost for a very long period 1912-1924, including the duration of World War 1. He was responsible for inaugurating Milngavie's first council housing scheme in 1920. He was an elder and office bearer of Cairns U.F. Church. He died suddenly at his house in Tannoch Drive on the 13th June 1929.
