Description

Peter Tait, JP was Provost of Milngavie from 1924-1927. Peter Tait was a native of Stromness, Orkney who came to live in Milngavie during the 1890s. He commuted each day from Milngavie to his place of work in Glasgow, where he was Managing Director of Messrs Clouston & Co, Manufacturers. He began to take an interest in local public affairs soon after his arrival in Milngavie, at first as a member of New Kilpatrick School Board. He was elected to Milngavie Town Council in 1910 and was Provost from 1924-1927. He took a keen interest in the Nursing Association, The Boys' Brigade, The Red Cross, and was a keen member of Milngavie Bowling Club. He died at his residence in Cairns Drive in March 1940, aged 84 years.
