Description

Bearsden Station (early view) , the railway arrived in Bearsden in 1863 and commuters would either walk to the station or arrive by horse & carriage. With the coming of the railway came a new name for the village of New Kirk or East Kilpatrick. The railway engineer of the time chose the name Bearsden from a cottage of that name, situated roughly on the site of the station. However, many other stories exist as to how Bearsden got its name and this is just one of them.
