Admin history/BiographyKirkintilloch Town Mission was a multi-denominational Christian organisation, founded in 1857 for the purpose of carrying out mission work in the town. The Mission employed a missionary who, with the help of voluntary workers, held evangelistic evening meetings, ran a sabbath school, as well as carrying out house to house visitations to 'carry the Gospel to the fireside'. For many years, the annual meeting included a popular 'soiree'.
The Mission was partially funded by the Glasgow City Mission until 1926, when the Glasgow City Mission severed relations with the Kirkintilloch Town Mission after a new missionary was appointed by the Kirkintilloch directors without consultation with Glasgow. Kirkintilloch Town Mission was dissolved in 1953 due to the difficulty in finding suitable premises and a person to act as missionary.
