Admin history/BiographyDuring the 1970s and 1980s a series of Scottish Burgh Surveys which were intended to provide guidance for town planners on archaeological implications when developing towns. The Surveys were supervised by Eric Talbot of the Department of Archaeology at the University of Glasgow. The Kirkintilloch Archaeological Project was designed to examine the mediaeval infrastructure of the Barony Burgh of Kirkintilloch with Ronald Stevenson as principal resident archaeologist. The project began in 1977-1978. By 1979 the Roman history of Kirkintilloch was also being investigated and a substantial trench was opened in Union Street which established what is believed to be the southern boundary of the Roman fort at Kirkintilloch. A final report of the excavations was never published.
