Admin history/BiographyThomas Stirling was born in Kirkintilloch, becoming an accountant and living in 'Invercargill' on Kirkintilloch Road, Lenzie. As a young man he was involved in the campaign that led to Kirkintilloch becoming 'dry' in 1921. When the Kirkintilloch Local Veto Poll Committee began campaigning for repeal, Thomas Stirling became chairman of the Kirkintilloch Citizens' Council. The Council's successful campaign resulted in victory for them in the 1961 Veto Poll, and Kirkintilloch remained dry until the final veto poll in 1968.
