Archival historyThe Kirkintilloch and District Model Engineer and Experimental Society was formed in 1946. The society met first at Townhead School, later moving to the Co-operative Halls in Broadcroft, and in 1948 to a workshop in the Temperance Hall. The society catered for all types of modelling but in 1949 they started a model railway section, and in 1950 the society was renamed the Kirkintilloch Model Makers Club. About the same time the club moved to Cruikshank's Smithy in Hillhead, where it stayed until taking over the 'Bath House' at Hillhead Community Centre in 1956. In 1959 the club was again renamed to the Kirkintilloch Model Engineers Club. In 1983 it was decided to disband the Kirkintilloch Model Engineering Club and to form two new clubs: the Kirkintilloch Model Engineering Society and the Kirkintilloch Model Railway Club.
