Admin history/BiographyJames Peter was born in Kirkintilloch in 1892 and attended Townhead Primary School and Lenzie Academy. After leaving school he worked at the office of the Woodilee Coal Company at the Meiklehill Colliery and with his father's joinery firm. He later became a member of Dunbarton County Council, a Magistrate, and was Provost of the Burgh of Kirkintilloch 1949-1952 and 1967-1970. He had strong interests in the community and was involved in many local clubs and societies. He was a founder member of Kirkintilloch Rotary Club and a member of the Scottish Council of the St Andrew's Ambulance Association, and was for many years secretary of the Miners' Welfare Institute and the local Liberal party. James Peter died in February 1978.
