Admin history/BiographyKerr Street School was built c1838 by Thomas Boyd, a calico printer from Bellfield, with the intention of providing additional school accommodation for Kirkintilloch and a meeting place for Unitarians. However, due to objections by some locals to the Unitarians, Boyd left the area soon afterwards. The school building was then acquired by a body of subscribers who continued it as an elementary school until 1880, when the school was destroyed by fire and the subscribers chose to discontinue the institution.
