Admin history/BiographyThe church at Old Aisle was founded c 1140 and was the church for Lenzie parish. In the seventeenth century, after repeated complaints about the distance of the church from the populated areas of Lenzie and Kirkintilloch, the church itself was demolished and a new church (now the Auld Kirk Museum) built in Kirkintilloch in 1644. Although the Auld Kirk had a small burial grounds in its environs, burial continued at the Old Aisle burial ground. In 1863 the ground was enlarged to become the cemetery for the parish of Kirkintilloch. This cemetery is sometimes called Kirkintilloch Cemetery. The cemetery was managed by a joint committee of the County Council of Dunbarton and Kirkintilloch Town Council.
