Admin history/BiographyKirkintilloch Junior Choir began life as the St Andrew's Church Band of Hope. The Rev John Roderick Macpherson (1892-1953) became minister of St Andrew's Kirkintilloch in 1936 and took over the band; the name Kirkintilloch Junior Choir was first used when the choir competed at the Glasgow Musical Festival in 1938. After Mr Macpherson's death in 1953, his wife Martha (known as Meta) became choir leader. The choir was disbanded in 1968 when Mrs MacPherson, who was working as a teacher in Larbert, felt that she was unable to continue carrying on with the choir.
During its lifetime the choir was extremely successful, appearing regularly on the radio and at concerts across the country, as well as touring abroad, in Holland (1947), Denmark (1950) and Canada (1953). The choir recorded several LPs for Parlophone. Famous members included Moira Anderson, Patricia Purcell and Joan Summers.
