Admin history/BiographyThe Rotary Club of Allander was founded in 1970. Rotary clubs exist to encourage and foster the ideal of service, high ethical standards in the business and the professions and the advancement of international understanding and co-operation. The rotarian movement was founded in Chicago in 1905 and membership was open to business people. In 1969 this qualification was extended to include residential qualification and the Allander was the first rotary club in Scotland to be founded with a 60% business and 40% residential membership qualification. The inaugural dinner took place in Milngavie Town Hall in January 1970 and was attended by over 200 members of district 102 (mother district). The club met on Thursday nights in the Black Bull Hotel, Milngavie. It's sponsoring club was Glasgow North. In 1972 the Allander became involved in Young Enterprise. Later it formed two Probus clubs - the Allander and the Antonine - for retired members. The Club's Rotary International Number is 113.
