Archival historyLennoxtown Co-operative Society was founded in 1812 as the Lennoxtown Friendly Victualling Society and was known as the oldest co-operative society in the world. The purpose of the society was to allow the members to provide the necessaries of life at the cheapest and easiest terms. The Society was wound up in 1965 and its engagements were transferred to the Kirkintilloch Equitable Society.
