Archival historyMr Stirling's family gave these scrapbooks to the depositor Mr Cairns in around 1956 when the depositor became correspondent for the Kirkintilloch Herald newspaper. The depositor donated them to the Archives in 2017.

Admin history/BiographyWilliam Stirling was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He worked as an engineer (fitter) in the Hydepark Locomotive Works in Springburn and later as a clerical officer for the National Assistance Board. He acted as the Bishopbriggs correspondent for the Kirkintilloch Herald for thirty years, and also contributed to many other newspapers.
Mr Stirling was active in the local community. He was elected to Cadder Parish Council as representative for Bishopbriggs North Division in 1921 and later served as chairman. In 1925 he was appointed a Justice of the Peace for the County of Lanark. He also served as an elder at Springfield Church, Bishopbriggs. He died on 20th February 1959 aged 78.
