Letter from Wm Coutts to Father explaining that the letter dated 16/9/18 not posted until 23/9/18. Had his "baptism of fire" 11 days ago- "Safe and sound" with only a "bruise on back" from shrapnel. Talks about treatment given for this and that the War Office may send word of injury. Talks of "great praise" given to his brigade and that "Johnny" began his retreat 2 days later. Heard at 7am that morning that "hostilities with Bulgaria had ceased". Talks of "Johnny leaving a lot of stuff on the road". Had "pancakes made from flour that had been left". Present camp "very pretty with trees and a lot of water". Talks of how no-one has had any letters, but says they will all be waiting for him. Talks of being back in the "orderly room" and how "at the present have I quite a cushy job". Talks of sending this letter on 30/9/18 but then states it will be sent tomorrow.
