Archival historyUnder the Act of 25th and 26th Vict chapter 101 entitled 'An Act to make more effectual provision for regulating the police of towns and populous places in Scotland and for lighting, cleansing, paving, draining, supplying water to and employing the same and also for promoting the public health thereof etc' empowered the householders within ward number four or Lenzie Ward which was within the boundaries fixed by the sheriff of Dunbartonshire along the centre of Gallowhill Road, to where it met the road from Kirkintilloch to Lenzie then east across the north British Railway etc to convene and elect 3 commissioners for carrying into effect the provisions of the said acts.
